There have been some curious specimens sprouting in the garden amidst the vegetables and flowers we intentionally planted. Most are unwanted weeds but there is an occasional fun surprise of random tomato or potato plant held over from years gone by. Yet another metaphor from the wise garden - we never know what will arise in front of us! Are we present enough to receive it?

A dear friend of ours and strong tap-root in FIG’s growth, stewards the summer lunch program at Wrightsville Presbyterian Church. He asked if a participating family could come to the garden to meet our goats and harvest some produce. They left with multiple pounds of blueberries and lettuce for the week’s lunches, as well as some giggles from giving Chesty and Huckleberry their favorite treat - Animal Crackers. We have continued this partnership sharing whatever is ready to pick.

A summer lunch program for children was not on our list for food distribution but once suggested it made total sense. This idea was like that curious sprouting specimen between the carrots - one that we didn’t plant but arose from elsewhere and we’re delighted to welcome. First In Gardens is truly a community effort and we’re grateful to remain on your minds and in your hearts so we all Tend The CORPS.
