Ever wonder what is going on “beneath the surface” - maybe with another person or your own self? This summer, I’ve held constant curiosity for how the soil, sun, water, air, and space affect the plants in our garden. Not surprisingly, no vegetable, herb, or flower has grown the same way as another as the environment is never the same.

There’s an excitement that fills me before I pull up a root vegetable, or return the next day to see how a pepper is ripening. Sometimes, a squirrel has found the squash before me and has taken ownership over it first. Everyday is like a treasure hunt amidst the rows and I’ve learned not to hold any expectation for what I may discover. Instead, I just pay attention with wide eyes and an open heart, and what I find is what will be. More often than not, it’s astounding.
